Update on Current Network Conditions and Southern Transcon Recovery Efforts

Date
Mar 20, 2025

The BNSF network is currently experiencing challenges, particularly on the Southern Transcon, due to excessive and extended winds exceeding 75 MPH that have impacted service consistency, alongside unexpected service incidents.

Despite these obstacles, we are dedicated to restoring network fluidity as soon as possible and we have implemented a series of strategic actions and resiliency measures to ensure a swift recovery and minimize disruptions:

  1. Enhanced Resource Allocation: Leveraging our recent improvements in crew and resource management that are driving quicker recovery.
  2. Repositioning Additional Resources: Positioning locomotives from our surge fleet to support the recovery efforts and combining and consolidating trains where opportunities arise to streamline operations.
  3. AI Wind Technology: We continue to leverage advanced AI wind technology to proactively manage crew availability and optimize network operations.

Our teams continue to support improving fluidity through the ports complex and into our Los Angeles (Hobart) facility. Our San Bernardino intermodal facility is seeing improved on-time outbound performance and the Chicago area is anticipated to improve as we move into the weekend.

For impacted shipment inquiries, please use the "Message Us" feature on the BNSF Customer Portal (registration and login required) or contact BNSF Customer Support at 1-888-428-2673. Additionally, please reach out to your BNSF marketing representative with any questions.

As always, we thank you for your business and appreciate the opportunity to serve as your transportation service provider.
