Industrial Products Network Update for Friday, October 7, 2022
BNSF operating teams are responding to a washout that occurred this afternoon approximately ten miles west of Gallup, New Mexico, on the Southern Transcon, our primary route between Southern California and the Midwest. Both main line tracks are currently out of service. Engineering and equipment are at the scene, and additional resources, including ballast, are being deployed to expedite track repairs. With the high volume of traffic traveling in this region, customers with shipments designated to move through this corridor should expect delays until operations have fully normalized.
BNSF teams also responded to a challenging operating environment earlier this week. On Saturday, a derailment occurred near Bridger, Montana, approximately 47 miles southwest of Billings, Montana. BNSF crews quickly responded to the scene, and the affected main track was restored to service in less than 48 hours.
Trains moving through central Nebraska on our Sand Hills Subdivision experienced delays this week as BNSF teams responded to a brush fire that began Sunday afternoon and impacted both main tracks near Halsey, Nebraska, approximately 175 miles east of Alliance, Nebraska. Both main lines were reopened on Monday morning.
We continue to conduct limited operations between Irvine and San Diego while repairs are made to a segment of track impacted by weather-related erosion on our San Diego Subdivision. We will continue to work with individual customers to regulate traffic flows as repairs are made.
Freeze warnings are currently in place over parts of the Plains; however, no major service disruptions are anticipated at this time. An active weather pattern is expected across the Southwest that could generate heavy rain and increased risk for flash flooding throughout the weekend. BNSF teams are monitoring conditions and are ready to quickly respond to any service disruptions.
As always, we thank you for your business and appreciate the opportunity to serve as your transportation service provider. We welcome your feedback and questions.
