Extended Name of Elevators
- An extended name is useful when there is more than one facility in
the same town (station location) operating under the same name or ownership.
The extended name (North Unit or Main House) helps to distinguish one
facility from the next.
- The station name should not be used as an extended name
since geography and station names are already a key part of the facility
identity and is present on the directory web page. Using the station
name as an extended name is therefore redundant.
- An extended name is also commonly used when a facility has a widly
known nickname, traditional or legacy name. Examples are "Dixie
mill", "Checkerboard" or "Pier 49".
- An extended name is also used as a place to include a 'doing business
as' (DBA) name. Don't add a DBA name to the official elevator name.
Adding a DBA name to the official name prevents the complete cross referencing
of facilities that are owned by the same company, which appears at the
bottom of each elevator facility's web page.
