Recruiting Outreach

BNSF Railway values the power of a workforce that reflects the representation of gender, race and ethnicity in areas where we conduct business. It is through diverse backgrounds and perspectives that we have found success! We are assertively recruiting talented minorities and women to join our team. BNSF offers on-the-job training, career development, competitive compensation, excellent benefits and allows employees to compete for internal promotions to nurture a stable, long-term railroad career. We are seeking candidates for field operations and the corporate offices, ranging from entry-level to senior management opportunities.

Though our target areas may change annually, we always strive to attract, recruit and retain an inclusive workforce across our 28-state railroad system. We are currently broadening our reach in the minority communities of Chicago, Fort Worth, Kansas City, Los Angeles, New Mexico and Oklahoma to heighten awareness about railroad careers. The most frequent job postings in field operations are:

Existing BNSF employees are invited to join employee affinity groups that support inclusion in the workplace. There are five affinity groups at BNSF. Affinity Groups are based at our Corporate Headquarters in Fort Worth, Texas (with a branch of Women’s Network in Topeka, Kansas) however, any employee can become a member regardless of work location. Each group selects their Chairpersons and committee leaders and provides opportunities for professional development, networking, community involvement, cultural learning and expression. Plans are being developed to further extend the reach of these groups in supporting field operations employees.

BNSF also has Regional Diversity Councils that have representation from union and non-union employees working in various job crafts. The diversity councils work within the local community and provide an avenue for employee advocacy surrounding diversity relations between peers, prior to (or in lieu of) involvement from Human Resources. BNSF has diversity councils in the following areas:

Birmingham, AL Memphis, TN
Chicago, IL Northern California Division
Denver, CO Seattle, WA
El Paso, TX Southern California Division
Fort Worth Headquarters Topeka, KS
Gallup, NM Tulsa, OK
Houston, TX Twin Cities, MN
Kansas City, KS Winslow, AZ
Lincoln, NE

The company's commitment to diversity and inclusion is modeled by the Executive Diversity Council which consists of the senior executive team, the Assistant Vice President, Human Resources and Diversity and the Vice President, Corporate Relations.
