Performing an ALK Rail Miles Search
Auto Fill
The Station name entry boxes have an auto fill feature that will generate a list of results after the first 3 characters have been typed in a drop down result set. The result set will refine for each letter after the third letter. Therefore, the more letters one enters, the smaller the result set list becomes.
Entering Stations
- In the Station name field, begin typing the name of the Station you are searching for. After the first 3 characters have been typed, a drop down result set will appear that displays all the stations that start with those letters you have entered.
- To select the station from the dropdown list you have two options:
1. With the mouse, click on the desired station in the result set list and it will be populated into the entry box.
2. Use the down arrow on the keyboard to highlight the desired station and press the enter key to populate it into the entry box.
- The Station entry box will only display Stations where the previous Carrier interchanges.
Entering Carriers
- The list of available Carrier Abbreviations is populated when the cursor enters the carrier field. To filter results, begin typing the name of the Carrier Abbreviation you are searching for. Note: There is no need to type any character to get a list of valid carrier abbreviations for this field.
- To select the carrier from the dropdown list you have two options:
1. With the mouse, click on the desired carrier in the result set list and it will be populated into the entry box.
2. Use the down arrow on the keyboard to highlight the desired carrier and press the enter key to populate it into the entry box.
- The Carrier entry box will only display those Carriers that serve the previously entered Station.
Viewing the Results
- Successful
1. The mileage results will be returned in the first table to the right of the displayed route. This is the total miles for the route entered.
2. The next table displays each Station Name with its corresponding SPLC, FSAC, and R260.
- Unsuccessful
- If the application cannot calculate the miles it can be due to a couple of reasons.
1. The interchange between two Carriers at a given Station is not valid.
2. At least one of the Segments was not found.
- The error message will be in the table where the miles would have been displayed if the calculation was successful.
