Resource Operations Technology Center
The primary task of the Resource Operations Technology Center (ROTC) is to provide support to internal
BNSF customers. The ROTC is staffed by special agents, police dispatchers,
and information officers. Officers in the ROTC control access to
the Topeka BNSF offices, monitor intrusion and environmental alarms for
BNSF facilities nationwide, and manage access control systems for many
BNSF facilities.
The ROTC provides electronic investigative information to Resource Protection
police officers through traditional police systems like the National Criminal
Information Center (NCIC), through contracted public electronic databases,
and BNSF proprietary databases.
ROTC officers maintain all Resource Protection databases which contain a wide variety of information, like; police reports,
trespasser contacts, railcar and train inspections. These officers also
support tracking systems for military movements, special passenger car
movements, and the Strategic Transportation Asset Tracking (STAT) program
for high-value shipments. The ROTC is utilized as a single point
contact for internal and external customers seeking loss and damage information
and assistance regarding rail shipments.
ROTC is constantly researching and developing new technology
to enhance our ability to provide even better services, including digital
video monitoring, the use of global positioning systems, and mapping to
identify and analyse loss and damage trends.
