BNSF Receives American Chemistry Council's Responsible Care Management System® Certification

Fort Worth, Texas, February 4, 2008:

BNSF Railway Company today announced it has received certification for implementing the American Chemistry Council’s (ACC's) Responsible Care Management System (RCMS)®.

RCMS® is a health, safety, security and environmental continuous improvement process developed by the ACC that applies an integrated, structured approach to drive results in seven key areas: Community awareness and emergency response; security; distribution; employee health and safety; pollution prevention; process safety; and product stewardship.

"BNSF's first priority is the safety of its employees, customers and the communities in which it operates. The RCMS® certification is another commitment BNSF has made to continuously improve standards of performance when it comes to the transportation of chemical products," says Mark Stehly, assistant vice president, Environment and Research and Development. "BNSF has a long history of working with its chemical shippers to improve transportation safety, and we strive to make protecting the environment a way of life and an ongoing commitment for every employee because it is the right thing to do for our customers, our employees and the communities in which we operate."
