BNSF Named Carrier of the Year by Kia Motors America
FORT WORTH, Texas, May 22, 2002:
The Burlington Northern and Santa Fe Railway Company (BNSF) today announced it was named Carrier of the Year by Kia Motors America. BNSF is the first North American railroad to receive this award.
The announcement was made at the eighth annual Kia Motors America Logistics Conference held last month. The award is given once a year and recognizes Kia Motors America's best performing transportation provider. Criteria for this award include: transit schedules, damage free service and ease of doing business.
"It is a great honor to be the first railroad recognized by Kia Motors America as their best performing transportation provider," said Ricci Gardner, vice president, BNSF Automotive. "We look forward to continuing to provide Kia Motors America with services that meet or exceed their expectations."
Headquartered in Fort Worth, BNSF operates one of the largest rail networks in North America, with 33,000 route miles of track covering 28 states and two Canadian provinces. Moving more than 2 million new vehicles annually, BNSF hauls one out of every 8 new cars or trucks sold in the United States. BNSF is an industry leader in Web-enabling a wide variety of customer transactions. The railway moves more intermodal traffic than any other rail system in the world, is America’s largest grain-hauling railroad, and hauls enough coal to generate more than 10 percent of the electricity produced in the United States.
