BNSF to Dedicate New Intermodal Facility in Stockton, California
STOCKTON, Calif., May 8, 2001:
State and local government officials, and local business and community leaders will join Matt Rose, BNSF president and chief executive officer, Friday, May 11, at 10 a.m. for the grand opening of BNSF’s new Stockton Intermodal Facility.
This 425-acre intermodal facility is strategically located to help improve service reliability on BNSF’s extensive intermodal network, particularly between Northern California and the Midwest. The new Stockton intermodal facility gives BNSF’s customers a competitive transportation alternative to over-the-road shipping and will help reduce congestion on the nation’s freeways.
In addition to building the facility, BNSF established a 55-acre wildlife sanctuary for the preservation of native species and contributed more than $9 million to intersection and roadway improvements.
Headquartered in Fort Worth, BNSF is the largest transporter of intermodal containers and trailers by rail in the world, and operates one of the largest rail networks in North America, with 33,500 route miles and two Canadian provinces, making it the largest intermodal rail carrier in the world.
