BNSF Realigns Industrial Products Marketing Group

FORT WORTH, Texas, March 01, 2001:

The Burlington Northern and Santa Fe Railway Company (BNSF) today announced it has realigned its Industrial Products marketing group into two groups: Sales and Marketing. BNSF’s Industrial Products group serves the metals, minerals, forest products and chemicals markets. The realignment is effective immediately.

“We are making these changes to improve our ability to focus on meeting customer expectations,” said Dave Garin, group vice president, Industrial Products. “We have historically approached the carload business through separate and distinct commodity groups. While we will continue to address the unique needs of each commodity, the new organization will be more focused on what they share in common—train capacity and service.”

The Sales group, headed by George Duggan, vice president, Industrial Products Sales, is focused on becoming more integrated in new and existing customers’ supply chains. BNSF plans to bolster its Sales group by increasing its customer coverage by 30 percent in the next 12 to 18 months. Duggan was formerly vice president, Chemicals.

The Marketing group, headed by Denis Smith who has been promoted to vice president, Industrial Products Marketing, is focused on simplifying the way customers use BNSF’s carload network by streamlining rate structures and introducing new products. Smith was formerly assistant vice president, Forest Products.

“Our main objective is to improve our customers’ experiences,“ said Garin. “By increasing our geographic sales coverage and making it easier to use our carload network, we will go a long way in doing just that.”

Headquartered in Fort Worth, BNSF operates one of the largest rail networks in North America, with 33,500 route miles of track covering 28 states and two Canadian provinces.
