BNSF Helps Make-A-Wish Dreams Come True
2009-10-26
Cloudy skies gave way to brilliant sunshine as 85 families who have received "wishes" from the Make-A-Wish Foundation boarded a special BNSF train on Oct. 24.
Joseph Faust, director, Public Affairs, said BNSF offered an opportunity for the families to take a four-hour round-trip train ride. More than 400 people enjoyed the ride.
"This is the largest gathering of 'wish' families at an event in North Texas," Faust said. "This also is the first time we have joined forces with Make-A-Wish of North Texas to hold an event for these families."
Make-A-Wish grants the wishes of children between the ages of 2-1/2 and 18 with life- threatening medical conditions to enrich the human experience with hope, strength and joy. The North Texas chapter has granted wishes in 106 counties from El Paso to Texarkana during the past 27 years. The Southwest Regional office, headquartered in Fort Worth, Texas, has granted more than 430 wishes in the last five years.
"Wish children from past and present were easy to spot since they all received a conductor's hat," Faust said. "They had a chance to meet the conductor, as well!"
