Get Answers to Your Voice Mail Questions!
2009-09-17
BNSF voice mail moved to the new Microsoft Exchange system on Sept. 6. The Help Desk has reported the following frequently asked questions. Answers are provided to facilitate your use of the new system.
Question: Why is my message indicator light on when I have no new voice mail messages?
Answer: You probably have a message in the old voice mail system. Access the old system by dialing the temporary number listed in the Voice Mail Setup and Access tri-fold you received in the mail. If you do not have the tri-fold handy, you can access a copy of it and other system documentation at Voice Mail.
Question: How do I get access to my personal distribution lists (DLs)?
Answer: To access personal DLs if touch tone is your default, press 5 to send a voice message, then press # to enter the list number (example: 7 + first six digits of employee number + list number). Press 1, and then record your message.
To access personal DLs if voice is your default, say "Directory," "Voice mail" list 7xxxxxxx (7 + first six digits of employee number + list number). Confirm the list, then say "send a message." Then you can record the message.
For example, if your list number in the old system was 02, and your employee number is 123456, your DL in the new system would be 71234562.
Question: How do I update or create my personal DLs?
Answer: Please contact the support hotline at 817-593-HELP (4357), option 3, option 9 to gain access.
Question: Why doesn't my BlackBerry play voice mail messages?
Answer: The 7200 and 7700 series (163 total within BNSF) will not play voice mail on BlackBerry. If you have the Curve 8300 or 8800 series, open the message, and then select "Open Attachment" to listen. Please use the "Open Attachment" command since downloading the file may cause some BlackBerrys to lock up.
Question: Why does my voice mail say that I have no new voice mail, yet I have a voice mail in my e-mail box?
Answer: If you open the e-mail or listen to the voice mail via e-mail first, the voice mail system recognizes that message as saved. If you subsequently access the system via phone, the message will be found under saved rather than new messages. If you delete the message via either your phone or e-mail, it deletes the message from both places.
Question: How do I change my voice interface to default to touch-tone command?
Answer: Say "Personal Options," then press 4.
Question: How do I change the computer-generated pronunciation of my name?
Answer: For voice-command users, say "Personal Options," and then press 2, then 3. For touch-tone users, press 6, then press 2, then 3.
Please contact the support hotline at 817-593 HELP (4357) option 3, option 9, if you have other questions regarding the system. More information also is available at Voice Mail.
