Positions are typically posted at the end of August or the beginning of September each year. This includes Management Trainee positions for the following calendar year and Intern positions for the following summer. Apply at the start of the fall semester to avoid missing an opportunity.
Be sure to apply to each position for which you wish to be considered. In order to be considered for a job, you must have applied to that specific posting. Candidates may apply to more than one position.
Interns: Apply the September prior to your last summer before graduation. For most students, this is the fall of their Junior year.
Management Trainees: Apply as early as possible during your senior year. Postings for the following calendar year go up in September.

Upon completion of the online application process, applicants receive a confirmation e-mail. At this point, the application is submitted to the job(s) of your choice. Applications are screened for the most qualified candidates to proceed to the next step in the process. Those identified as the most qualified are invited to take an online assessment. This assessment must be completed within 5 days of receipt. No extensions are granted.

Therefore candidates must have graduated with a Bachelor's or Master's degree from an accredited university in the last three years AND have less than three years of professional work experience (excluding positions held in high school and college).

Yes, relocation is required of Management Trainees, especially for those applying to Engineering, Mechanical, or Transportation postings. For those relocating more than 50 miles from their permanent residence, BNSF provides a relocation package - exact benefits are detailed at the time of offer. Note: our Engineering, Mechanical, and Transportation postings are considered system wide postings. Although the primary location may show in Fort Worth on the posting, the assigned work location could be anywhere on our network - exact locations are specified at the time of offer.

The objective of our Summer Internship Program is to attract and develop current college students that after graduation will return to BNSF fulltime as Management Trainees. This summer experience allows students to experience firsthand the day-to-day functions of a class I railroad. At the end of the summer, fulltime offers are extended to eligible seniors for Management Trainee positions.
No, these programs are designed for designed for current students and recent graduates with little to no professional work experience, more specifically those with less than three years of professional work experience (excluding positions held in high school and college). Individuals with additional experience are encouraged to apply to other positions posted on our career website, especially our Experienced First Line Supervisor (EFLS) Program. This program mirrors the Management Trainee Program but is designed with individuals with three or more years' experience supervising 5 or more employees.
BNSF Railway does not offer co-ops. We encourage students to consider our Summer Internship Program to gain experience within the rail industry.
