College FAQs



For whom is the Management Trainee Program designed?

The MT program is designed for college graduates who have little to no work and/or supervisory experience, but have demonstrated the ability to lead among their peers.

When does the MT program begin?

The MT program takes place three times a year: January, June and September . December graduates are eligible for the January program. May graduates are eligible for the June and September program, and August graduates are eligible for the September program. Summer Internship opportunities are also available.

What is the average salary range?

Salary varies by department and degree type. The average salary range is $45,000 - $56,000 annually plus incentive bonus if awarded.

Does BNSF take into account previous work experience?

It varies. The minimum requirement for the MT program is a college degree with little to no work or supervisory experience. Direct hire positions are based on experience. Salaries for direct hire positions can be negotiated.

Will candidates for Operations have to relocate?

Yes. The ideal operations candidate will be very flexible regarding relocation. Placements will cover the BNSF system which covers the western two-thirds of the United States.
